THE PROJECT

The Full Story

Once upon a time, there was a city nestled in the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia. This city was Jeddah, a place where history and modernity collide in the most beautiful way possible. However, as time went on, some of Jeddah's most precious gems began to disappear. The informal neighbourhoods that once existed outside the ancient city walls were slowly being erased by time and modernization. That's when Arsheef 66 stepped in.

Arsheef 66 is a documentation project on a mission to archive the architecture of Jeddah's informal districts. Their goal is to keep the memory of these neighbourhoods alive long after they are gone. They believe that these areas were not just buildings, but a part of the city's culture and heritage.

The project began with a focus on the informal neighbourhoods that were once huts and shanties outside the ancient city walls. Each site is documented with precision, capturing every detail of the architecture, layout, and history of the area. But the project doesn't stop there. The project continues to document more and more sites in Jeddah city, creating a dialogue around lost heritage and memories.

Through this work, Arsheef 66 is creating something new. Bridging the gap between the past and the present, using the power of documentation to keep the city's memory alive. With the help of passionate individuals dedicated to keeping Jeddah's history alive for generations to come.

In conclusion, Arsheef 66 is more than just a documentation project. It is a legacy, a tribute to the past, and a promise for the future. The work is a reminder that history is not just a thing of the past, but something that can be kept alive through the power of storytelling.
